Tumkur University

Tumkur University, is a state university established in 2004 to cater to the educational needs of Tumakuru district where the majority of students hail from the rural background. Since its birth, it has witnessed tremendous growth and recently it has received a three star rating of higher institutions under Karnataka State Universities Rating Framework (KSURF). Besides imparting regular courses, the University is also involved in research and innovation, teaching and providing basic amenities.

Seventeen Departments of Postgraduate Studies and Research in the faculties of Science and Technology, Arts, Commerce and Management; two Constituent Colleges, the University College of Arts and the University College of Science; and more than eighty-six affiliated Colleges constitute the universe of the Tumkur University. 

The University offers PhD Programmes in all the faculties. The research profile of the University includes 62 Research projects from various funding agencies such as Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), UGC, ICSSR, ICHR, Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Government of Karnataka, and the British Council, etc.

Bachelor of Vocational Studies (B.VOC)
Tumkur University is the first University to introduce B.Voc Courses. UGC have given approval to start Bachelor of Vocation in two subjects:
  • Hardware Technology and Networking; and
  • Visual and Applied Arts

Admission in Tumkur University

  • The selection for the UG courses will be done on the basis of academic merit.
  • The admission to PG courses will be based on the counseling process.
  • For MBA and MCA, the admission will be given directly through KEA, Bengaluru.
  • For all the Ph.D. courses, the candidates have to appear for the entrance examination and personal interview.

University Library

The Central Library of the University is well equipped with more than about 4100 books and 36 journals. For the easy access benefits of students and faculty, there is a book bank facility as well. The library has good collection of competitive exam books too.It also provides internet facility to the staff. The library has subscription for journals and magazines, newspapers.
